Land Acknowledgment

Since time immemorial, Indigenous peoples have built thriving communities, lived in balance with nature, and practiced sustainable land stewardship. We acknowledge the lasting impacts of colonization and honor the resilience of displaced Indigenous communities.

The Emerald Empire stretches from Lane County East to Deschutes and South to the California Border.

The Kalapuya were the original stewards of this land, with descendants in the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and Siletz Indians. Other tribes with deep ties here include the Coos, Lower Umpqua, Siuslaw, Coquille, Warm Springs, Wasco, Paiute, Tenino, Cow Creek Band of Umpqua, and the Klamath, Modoc, and Yahooskin peoples.

We honor their enduring connection to this land, their continued presence, and their contributions to our communities. We affirm our respect for the inherent sovereignty of all federally recognized Tribal Nations and Indigenous peoples in Oregon and across the nation.
